Manukau Institute of Technology helping female students to ‘nail it’

Manukau Institute of Technology
have a new programme in place to encourage women into trades. Today, 20 women were welcomed
into the new programme, ‘Nailing It’, which is designed to help get them
into this male dominated vocation. Hania Douglas has more. A long line of hard hats ready
for these new trades students. Nailing It is the first trades
training project of its kind, with the aim of having more women
working in the sector. These cousins have climbed on board,
and it’s a dream come true. Jasmine and Maria
are hoping to make some real changes in an area of concern
for many of us. Programme developer
and tutor Owen Lingard says it’s important to get women trained
and ready in the sector because he believes they have a lot
to offer the industry. The programme kicks off
in the new term, and then the sky is the limit. Hania Douglas, Te Karere.
